"Slow Motion"
Detail Writing Technique
Watch the videos above and think about how you can use the "slow motion" / "exploding a moment" technique in your own writing. Discuss this question: How does this technique make readers more engaged in your story?
Pick 1-2 lines of your warm-up from today and rewrite them so the description is at least a paragraph (5 sentences) long. Your goal is to pick a sentence where an event or emotion is described briefly, and expand it so the event/emotion is described in slooooooow motion detail. Here's a good rule: the description should take longer to read than the event took to actually happen!
Instructions:
- Highlight the part of your warm-up that you are going to turn into slow motion.
- Write your new "slow motion moment" under your original description. Format your assignment like the example below.
- When you are done, share your document with Ms. G.
