Summary Notes
Summary notes are a variation on "Cornell Notes." In this note-taking style, you use a two-three column note sheet similar to these examples:
Directions:
- Get a hard (printed) copy of the summary notes. (See download button below).
- When you read the Odyssey, identify key ideas or topics that appear in the text. Write these in the "Main Topics" column. Sometimes, Ms. Georgi will give you a list of main topics to include before you read.
- Write a summary or description of the main topics you identified in the "My Summary / Description" column.
- Save the bottom row of the notes for class. When you learn new information about the book in class, you will add it to the "Class Notes" row.
How to Write a Summary:
- Identify the MAIN people, places, events, and conflicts that occur in the story.
- Re-state what happened in the story in your own words, focusing only on those MAIN people, places, events, and conflicts.
- No two summaries are exactly the same! If you use the exact wording from the text, be sure to put it in quotation marks.
